Some people enjoy monogamy, and there are those who don’t. Unfortunately, we live in a world where polygamy is shunned. Due to this, many people who don’t/can’t conform to traditional social structures of monogamous relationships have a tendency to be discriminated against, since they have different relationship preferences.

The Ethical Slut is a guidebook with information to help individuals who are interested in other relationship lifestyles, wants to fit into communities who value the same sexual ideas similar to them and help make a difference or curious about how to live a more sex-positive life. Readers are referred to as sluts, and the co-authors Janet W. Hardy and Dossie Easton refer to themselves as sluts also.

The book is not written in a format to be read from cover to cover unless the reader wants to. It is a 322-page book with a slut glossary, index, and further reading list included at the end.

Each chapter has smaller categories within them, which speak on various topics related to the section. The authors intended to cover all aspects sluts may deal with in smaller segments. Due to some topical categories being too in-depth, reasonably new to sluts, and the lack of information.

Within the chapters, there are exercises readers are suggested to do on their own or with a partner, and there are many shared experiences from the authors and other sluts, readers can learn or relate.

My Thoughts:
I was excited to read The Ethical Slut. However, I didn’t expect it to be a hard read for me. It is not a book you can sit and read from cover to cover. It loaded with lots of in-depth information that makes you pause and think.
Despite the guidance book being a hard read for me from cover to cover, I enjoyed reading it. I know I will refer back to this book multiple times whether to deal with something in my relationship, take suggestions out of it for friends or people with questions, and practice some of the exercises.
I decided to read the book because I wanted to know more about slut hood. Surprisingly, I also learned more about myself as a person and how to accept other people preferences better. The Ethical Slut taught me more than I needed to know, and it also helped me endure my slut ways.

Recommendations:
I recommend The Ethical Slut to everyone. It is one of those books where everyone can take something from it. The coauthors Hardy and Easton didn’t leave anybody out in this guidebook. If a person is single, married, monogamous, polyamorous, non-binary, CIS, religious, political, professional in any field, or apart of the LGBTQA community this book is for everyone.
